Miss Katie

"I believe in the power and the importance of play as a foundation for future academic success."

Katherine Gordon (AKA Miss Katie) has been teaching and nurturing children for over 20 years.  She grew up in Croton-on-Hudson NY and returned to her hometown after graduating college in 1990.  After working in the marketing industry for 10 years, she remembered that her true passion was working with children.  Miss Katie started her own in home educational childcare program which ran successfully until her move to Ellenville NY in 2007.

In accordance with her passion, she was hired by the Ellenville Nursery School (ENS) as an Assistant Teacher in 2008 where she continued to educate children ages 3-5.  During these years, Miss Katie studied under one of the best early childhood educators, Miss Sally Minich.  In addition to teaching during the school year program,  Miss Katie successfully directed the Summer Camp program for ENS for 10 years. During her at ENS, Miss Katie obtained her Child Development Associate certification; and in 2015 took over as Director and Head Teacher.

Miss Katie's goal is to continue the hands on learning experience that the ENS  has been known for over 60 years, and provide a safe and loving learning environment supporting children’s cognitive, social/emotional and language development.

Katie believes in the power and the importance of play as a foundation for future academic success. She believes in allowing children to explore and she supports their natural curiosities by providing an environment and materials that are developmentally appropriate.

Miss Katie is CPR/First Aid certified. She is an active member of the NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) .  As an Early Childhood Educator Katie is a lifelong learner, continuing to research changes in the field,  attending workshops regarding new practices and reading literature relevant to early childhood education.
